The Pacific Islands
The last great step in man's colonization of the planet involves the longest sea journey of all - thousands of miles southwest from the Marquesas or Tahiti to New Zealand. Easter Island: The famous statues on Easter Island are first described in the year 1722, the year in which Dutch admiral, Jacob Roggeveen visits and names the island on Easter Day.The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. It extends from the Arctic in the north to the Southern Ocean in the south, bounded by Asia and Australia in the west, and the Americas in the east. They comprise of 20,000 to 30,000 islands in the Pacific Islands. The islands are also sometimes collectively called Oceanea. Some major islands within the Pacific Islands include, Papua New Guinea and the Hawaiian archipelago.
